In a recent article at Computerworld.com, Microsoft Corp. recently released a free module for its just released Office Communications Server 2007 that lets users troubleshoot voice quality issues by monitoring network performance in real time.

The Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 Quality of Experience Monitoring Server (QMS) is designed as a software-based competitor to network gear offered by the likes of Cisco Systems Inc., according to Microsoft officials when they announced QMS is August.

Warren Barkley, principle program manager for OCS, wrote last week on the OCS blog, “QMS is a pure software-based solution that monitors voice quality using all the information collected by the endpoints, [mean opinion score], loss, jitter, delay, device quality and over a dozen other parameters that are used to determine quality.”

In a recent article from Reuters it seems we are looking over the edge at a possible Google Phone.  Another article from CRN networking blog, it seems there is more talk about a possible phone, but is it really going to be all what is cracked up to be? will they only offer Google searches, calendar, mail and apps?  I guess it’s some good things to think about, but I think it just be something cloning the Blackberry or the plethora of Windows Mobile devices.  I’m hoping this will point us to WiMAX and possibly an all 802.11 wireless device with VOIP rather than the day to day CDMA technology. Any thoughts on this?

My team had the opportunity to join in at Microsoft’s new OCS 2007 launch( Office Communications Server 07) in SanFran,  CA. It was a wonderful event. In any case R.Lopez from Dimension Data (SA) had an opportunity to speak with the press along with a few of our peers here is what they had to say!

OCS will be very interesting to watch as a Primary PBX since it is a a year one product. For our solutions we combine the best in class from Cisco IP call control, Phones and infrastructure and layer in the other technologies to fit the needs of the client. Any cooperation from both sides is welcomed!

Comments and Feedback are welcome

I wanted to make you aware of another popular tool that I can’t live without. Wireshark has saved me a few days of troubleshooting SIP calling issues and reduced my time to repair to a few hours.

I have nothing but great things to say about this product. It supports most of the protocols that you will find in today’s networks LAN/WAN/VOIP.

Information borrowed from  http://www.wireshark.org/

Wireshark’s powerful features make it the tool of choice for network troubleshooting, protocol development, and education worldwide.

Wireshark was written by an international group of networking experts, and is an example of the power of open source. It runs on Windows, Linux, UNIX, and other platforms.

It used to be known as Ethereal, and was renamed in May 2006.
